As the shopping season kicks off soon, make sure your shop is ready for folks looking for the perfect gift. We have some ideas for you in this edition of ShopTalk, each designed to help make for a festive and profitable season. So read on and learn. After all, 'tis the season to sell and earn!
| | | This holiday we have more merchandise than ever for you to offer. But to maximize your seasonal sales, there's more to do than simply designing and adding products. You'll want to make sure customers know about your shop and products, and can easily find the perfect present once there. Here are four quick-and-easy steps for kicking off your holiday promotion: - Get an early start: Debut your holiday section right after Halloween. Fill it with festive décor items, and great gifts to remind your customers that it's never too early to start shopping. Popular holiday products include ornaments, greeting and note cards, keepsake boxes, pillows. This year, try adding festive yard signs and banners for the home!
- Simple organization: In the tip above, we mentioned creating a special holiday section. Now make sure it's easy to find. Bring it to the top by thinking about your shop niche (and the people who visit it), and organize by recipient: Gifts for him, her, husband, grandma, policeman, dog lover, etc.
- Keep keywords fresh: Shoppers will be hitting the search engines, and keying in their terms for those one-of-a-kind gifts. Make it easy for them to find you by completing your shop, section, and product descriptions. Also add section teasers and meta-tags. Think like a holiday shopper, and use keywords your customers would use. Need help finding perfect keywords and understanding SEO? Check out our SEO tutorial and SEO chat series.
- Hit the online social scene: Social media is a sure-fire (and free) way to get your name out there. Connect and promote using blogs, social networking sites and community sites. Spread the word and talk about your holiday gifts and products. Not only are these online promotion methods free, you can also generate extra content about your shop for search engines.

For instance, Shopkeepers are always giving suggestions on how we can make Product Descriptions better. And now we've included the Merchandise CafePressVoice team to be a part of the reviewing process. Sort of like a focus group, the CafePressVoice team members are Shopkeepers who give us insights -- from a Shopkeeper perspective. | |
